Instructions for Treatment of Ulnar Neuropathy

  •  Sleep with the arm at side, and to facilitate this, wrap a rolled-up towel about the arm.
  • Set the alarm clock to awaken at 1 or 2 o'clock in the morning and re-adjust position until this habit is learned.
  • Do not sleep with arm curled about the body.
  • When working at a desk, pleace a padded pillow beneath elbow and sit with chair farther from the desk so that your forearm rests on the desk.
  • Alter the angle of the computer console and the height of the desk chair to bring the wrist into a neutral position, so that the elbow is only 30 degrees at flexion.
  • When reading, get a reading stand. This can be placed on the bed to straddle legs. This way the arm only needs to be raised to turn the page, not to hold the book.
  • Do not leave elbow flexed on the window sill of a car.
  • When relaxing, sit with arm placed in the lap and forearm supinated. The elbow should be placed at a 30 degree flexion.
  • Do not cross arms or lean head on hand.
  • Minimize the use of the telephone in hand and get a headset or speaker phone.
